I am a PADI Assistant Instructor and former classroom teacher. I give 20-40 presentations a year to public school children (grades 1-12) about careers in diving. I may spend 10 minutes (out of 40) on actual careers and spend the rest of the time talking (and showing pictures/movies) about the oceans. As our shop's front-man for Project Aware I discuss shark conservation and debris/pollution in our oceans. I "touch" over 1,500 public school students per year.

When I ask the students if they know anything about shark finning I get no raised hands. If I ask to name a way people pollute the oceans most only suggest garbage dumping. Run-off of pollutants is never mentioned. After showing some videos and pictures of sharks I tell them that 30-60 million shark a year are killed for their fin. (I can't show pictures of either dead sharks or piles of fins in schools, regretfully.) I sincerely believe that unless we make a concerted effort at educating out school children about the destruction of the ocean all these other ideas are nice but they don't build for the future.

Somehow we have to get ocean conservation content into the curriculum and for the time being it may just be with guest speakers who have good content and are good presenters. I know that every time I leave a classroom I get a huge round of applause and many thank you notes. The kids are hungry for this knowledge.

Changing classroom curriculum is a tough and lengthy process. But if hundreds or thousands of volunteers could fan out as guest speakers to schools (for career days, science days, nature days, earth days, etc.) we could have a huge impact at a marginal cost.

Man-made global warming is affecting our oceans and the weather. Ocean waters are rising. Our beaches are eroding. The ocean waters are warming up. These warm ocean waters are causing Hurricanes to get stronger and occur more often.
Many organizations around the world are pioneers in weather modification research. They believe that in order to slow down hurricanes, the waters of the oceans need to be cooled down.
There are some organizations that plan to weaken hurricanes by mixing warm waters from the ocean surface with colder waters deep in the sea. To us, that is like mixing cold water with hot water, the result is luke-warm water.

Who are we:
Revelaciones Technologies LLC, through 30 years of research and testing, has developed a several filtration solutions for cleaning air and water. Our filters are low tech and low cost. They have been designed and/or retrofitted to serve the clients’ specific needs.
Our filters consist of lava rock soaked in our patent pending RR 5000 Formula. It is a multi-use, anti-bacterial solvent. The RR 5000 Formula is a natural, citrus-based solvent. It is non-toxic, biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
By applying the RR 5000 Formula to our filters, we kill the bacteria that passes through the filters. This in turn cleans and cools the water.

Proposal:
What we propose doing is keeping the deep ocean waters cold while cooling the warm surface waters. We propose using our technology with existing water buoys. By using water buoys, we are taking existing structures and making them work for us.
Whether they are Deep water, Coastal Water, or Protected Water Buoys, our designs can be customized to fit the different types of existing Buoys .

Water buoys come in varying shapes and sizes. Some are taller and some are shorter than others. The one thing that they all have in common is that they all float. And as long as they have something in which to hook our water chime filters to it, we can work with it. We propose placing multiple water chime filters at strategic buoy locations throughout the ocean.

Concept:
Wind chimes have varying lengths to give off different sounds.
Our Filters design consists of several water filters in various sizes to provide for a more effective cleaning. We call our designs the Water Chime Filters. The depths and sizes of the Water Chime Filters can be customized to the area in which the buoys are located.
The water currents will provide the movement needed for the filters to be actively moving. When the currents are slow, the filters will be low in the water. The chimes will sway back and forth while cleaning the water they sit in. As the water currents move faster, the filters will move faster. The faster they move will cause them to rotate, like a carnival ride. Also, as the water currents pass by these water chime filters they will carry the clean water to different areas and replace it with other warm and dirty water.

The faster the water undercurrents move, the faster the water chime filters will rotate, thus creating air vortex above the buoy area. This air vortex will rise above the buoy area and go up into the air. As wind currents pass by, the cool air will travel to other places.

Maintenance:
To keep the Water Chime Filters working to their maximum potential, we propose having an “Adopt a Buoy Program.”
Any club or organization can commit themselves to sponsoring the “Adopt a Buoy Program.”. by doing this they will get a sign with their club or organization name on it. As they are committing themselves to maintain that buoy in the best working order.
The “Adopt a Buoy Program” will build environmental awareness and help the community take control and take an active role in protecting and cleaning the environment.

The Result:
Our water chime filters in conjuction with the RR 5000 Formula will rejuvenate the eco system.
The RR 5000 Formula cleans and cools water.

Primary Benefit:
Cooling the waters of the oceans we will slow down hurricanes and reduce hurricane force storms.
Secondary Benefits:
Water creates an algae. Once cleaned, the algae will be clean and healthy as well. Clean water and clean algae will bring fish to the area. As more and more schools of fish feast on the algae, the water chime filters will work more efficiently. Thus improving the speed in which the filters work.

Conclusion:
With your resources and our technology we have the ability to modify weather patterns. The technology is there, waiting for us to work together. Please help us save our oceans and protect our ocean front property from devastating hurricanes.

I would like to present to you a proposal for the development of your ocean resources previously prepared by me in my endeavour to transfer this tuna cage technology to the pacific region, an endeavour which began way in early 2004.

Secchi App: Citizen Science for Sailors to Monitor the Phytoplankton.

Two years ago, a team of Canadian researchers writing in the scientific magazine Nature reported that the abundance of marine phytoplankton had declined globally by as much as 40 per cent since 1950. The authors attributed this change to the warming of the ocean's surface due to climate change.

The Nature paper sparked considerable debate and controversy among marine scientists, in part because our understanding of the oceans’ phytoplankton at a global scale, and over long timescales is quite poor – the oceans are a vast place, they are difficult to reach, costly to study, and there are not that many scientists to study them.

Hence the Secchi App and the Secchi Disk Citizen Science Project for all Seafarers.

We hope that sailors and scientists around the world will take part in this monitoring study and continue to submit data from now and for years to come. The goal is to create a spatially extensive, long-term time series of Secchi Disk data.

The more people that take part the greater the project and the more important and valuable the data will become as a resource for future generations.

Please, Read that article about the voices and sounds that have been studied for some time now. I think that's possible to develop a device what is put into the water and it sends sounds that dolphins and whales can understand and stay out when the Taiji fishermen begin to drive the whales or dolphins together and toward the cave. Voices would prevent the dolphins' hearing the banging sound from the fishermen's boats, what they are doing for to get the dolphins panic and run towards the boat in the middle of the cave. Such a device can not be very difficult to develop and drop into the water when the fishermen go to look for dolphin and whale pods.

This idea is headed by a 3-pronged attack to benefit marine conservation, animal welfare, and local communities. Feral dog populations are constantly increasing, especially in island communities, because of the lack of animal control. These dogs can heavily impact marine species (i.e. sea turtles; destroying nests, killing nesting females, eating hatchlings) and even terrestrial flora and fauna.

This project calls for veterinarians that are willing to travel and establish mobile clinics specifically for spay/neuter of feral dogs. The next step would then be to adopt out these dogs in conjunction with an international adoption program. Because these dogs are feral, they need to be desensitized and re-acclimated to living with humans before being adopted out.

If carried out, this project will not only decrease feral dog populations in island communities and conserve marine species, but will help improve eco-tourism in communities that have suffered economical hardships due to lack of animal control. It can also be expanded to any community with large feral dog populations.

Current environmental issues stem from a global lack of knowledge and awareness about our fundamental reliance on the ecosystem services provided by the natural world. In addition, scientists lack much of the data needed to inform political decisions and effectively manage ecosystems in a sustainable manner.

A global system of strategically-located experiential learning and research centres would simulataneously and synergistically tackle both areas of concern. Natural scientists would use the centres to teach people of all ages (especially children) about the natural world and the critical ecosystem services we depend on. Although this alone is not sufficient to make people act in a more environmentally sustainable manner, it is a necessary first step. A sense of passion would be evoked if people were more involved with environmental research and natural history through citizen science.

At the same time, scientists would gain invaluable data that would further our understanding of nature and allow us to make more informed management decisions to preserve and restore the ecosystem services that we depend on for our livelihoods.

These centres would be fully sustainable. In addition to promoting general ecological literacy and natural history, they would incorporate and teach the public about renewable energy and efficiency, sustainable farming and fishing practices, and environmentally responsible purchasing and procurement at all levels. Partnerships with universities around the world could be sought with a dual mandate of environmental research and public outreach and education.

Eventually experiential learning at such a centre would be a requirement in school cirricula around the world, with the result of a more ecologically literate and responsible society.
